Robin Har (@saboteur) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project
Robin is a concept artist and designer from Southern California. He worked as a UX/UI designer on a lot of big projects but likes to paint too, so he’s mixing art and design with a lot of success. On his feed you’ll mostly find his artworks which are focused on potraits and character designs. He ranges and frequently changes from more illustrated and toony figures to realistic portraits and does it with great ease, I have to say I like all the spectrum.
One thing I appreaciate a lot are the not so rare light studies he makes, it’s a subject I’m fighting against and I love to get inspired by awesome works like Robin’s. Complex effects on a painting and his are always beautiful.
The first image is in fact a “Light waterfall”, a study he made starting from a photo of Marta Bevacqua, an Italian photographer. If you want to see the original pic you will have to follow the link on his IG post, but trust me I did it cause I was so curious and I found out it’s basically exactly what you’re looking at right now. I tried watching them both closely and then together and I was impressed by the quality of the painting. Legit if you stand at more than one meter from the phone screen you can’t tell which one is the painting and which one is the photograph.
The second image is yet another beautiful expression of his skill with lighting. Of course the lady is wonderfully painted and I love the clothes and the way he chose to paint the shirt. If you take a good look tho you’ll realize there are quite a few spots where the shadows created by the sun, and the corresponding light spots were really thought of and carefully painted. It’s a fantastic piece, he also went with an original point of view, so cool!
