Angela Fehr (@angelfehr) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project

Angela is an artist and teacher based in Northen British Columbia. Her style is original, authentic, and it’s the first thing you’re going to notice if you look at her paintings. It’s a point of focus in her career: she decided she needed to express what’s in her heart and uses watercolors to do it, with great success if you ask me.

I love how you can quickly grasp what the subject is, but at the same time you clearly notice that’s what she feels about it more than what she sees. Being able to represent so well and freely your feelings and impressions through a loose style of painting is awesome, if you like it too definitely check out her profile and website (she teaches!).

In the first image you see there’s a landscape represented, and the first thing I think when I look at it is “light”. That’s what it gave me, even tho I recognize there’s a big trunk in the foreground with a lot of shadow I was instead immediately attracted by how she felt and painted light on the mountains, one side of the tree and the other tree entirely. It looks like she’s coming from a dark and cold place and looks ahead to the warm area, walking forward. She gave little importance to the closest elements and painted the background instead, I think she desired to be there. This artwork is great!

The second image is about a painting that’s even less “precise”. Try to think about this sentence as a compliment instead of a critique. If you take away from perfection you’re putting it into perception. Maybe even I should stop and think about this a bit more, sometimes I dive too deep into thinking I don’t like something because I originally wanted to see it differently, I imagined something else, but it’s not always a bad thing!

What do you think about Angela? Do you also love what’s going on here?
