Anna Rolskaya (@anna.rolskaya) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project
Anna is an hand lettering artist and painter originally from Russia now based in Portugal. She recently went on an explosion of really beautiful abstract paintings, but I actually got to know her first for the lettering posts she was making.
I don’t feel I can discount one or the other anymore so I would say she does both and does them very well! Regarding the lettering part she uses both digital and traditional medium ranging from sketches on paper to chalkboards for shops or events. On the paintings I’d really love to say very little to try to keep your ideas clean and genuine, abstract art should really be something everyone sees and understands in its own way.
The first picture looks like a magazine cover! I love the hugging and embracing effect the lettering has on the left, it’s not intrusive but looks natural and continuously flowing. I also find the change of color on the words really nice and smart, it’s the best to keep a high contrast. Lastly the entwining of the R with the T works well, it’s smooth and ties everything together pretty nicely!
The second image starts off with a unique and crazy location, it’s a good shot at the right time of the day when light is about to go down and donates her a cool effect on the hair. On her artwork I’ll just say I find all the colors really nice, the pairing of light blue with the high contrast of the orange on top has its own life (at least in my mind) and the dark red she used mostly on the bottom is the one that hits me the most, it’s driving my emotions first.
What do you think about Anna? Do you also love what’s going on here?
