Hugo Barros Costa (@yolahugo) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project

Hugo is an artist and teacher from Portugal, he loves to sketch and has been doing so for a long time now. On IG you’ll get to see primarily ink sketches and plein air watercolors. A strong part, and maybe the one I appreciate the most, is the huge amount of urban sketches with pictures taken on location. Those pics have somthing mesmerizing in them, I get lost into the lines trying to catch details, particular lines or in general confronting the real world background with the paper in the foreground to see how he dealt with intricate conditions. Spoiler, I never get bored nor disappointed!

The first image is just a touch of all the sketches Hugo posts on his profile, maybe I like this one more because of the awesome olive tree in the foreground. I also love the way he creates contrasts between lights and shadows using little lines to fill the darker areas. If you zoom in you’ll notice they’re not completely colored, he uses various degrees of proximity from line to line to give them authenticity and original weights.

The second image is an insanely good way of representing people at the beach. He basically chose to only mark the shadows, letting our brains free to complete the pictures however we feel like. It’s a known technique but always surprises me, it’s so cool to see how little we need to build a clear image in our head.

What do you think about Hugo? Do you also love what’s going on here?
