Nikolaos Kafasis (@nikolas_tower) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project

Nikolaos is an artist and illustrator based in Greece. Inspired by nature, fantasy and ancient cultures (Greek and Asian) he creates amazing drawings and paintings using different mediums. Watercolors, color pencils and golden leaf are the ones I see and like the most, with those he’s able to create mystical scenes often building a frame to a human figure portraited as the main subject.

Something to notice and learn from him is the choice of colors and how he mixes them on paper. When he goes for a golden leaf touch he’s always on point, I’ve seen both paintings where some little lines were just enough and perfect and others where he went for big areas that felt amazing none the less. Knowing when to push and when to stay back is not easy!

The first pair of images are actually two shots of the same painting. I wanted to highlight how beautiful the woman is and to also let you see what I would consider a great use of golden leaf. The birds and the bottom part of the painting in general could almost work as a piece on their own, yet when you see the combination you realize there’s a perfect chemistry between the two parts and they complete each other so well. It’s a gorgeous result!

Last picture is all about the red birds. Their flight and the fading background really change the way you look at the girl, you can let your imagination fly free with them and think she’s the main character of a story: why are all the birds red? How is she connected with them? Is she trying to hide under that hood? Is she a good or an evil woman?
I like this painting a lot!
