Elaine Cheng (@cheng.e) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project

Elaine is an artist based in Barcelona who loves to experiment with different mediums and posts a ton of cool stuff on IG. There are digital pieces as well as traditional ones, she uses her sketchbook and does some plain air too sometimes. Overall I would say she keeps a very wide horizon in front of herself and explores with great results the whole spectrum.

It’s not for everyone, but if you like to read and you care about the artist and what’s going on in their mind you’re lucky cause the captions on Elaine’s posts are most of the times decently long, interesting and provide an easy way to “get in touch” with her through the comments. I really like her approach!

The first image is a “#mermay” piece which I really love. The lineart shared together with this one is amazing, looking at the steps is also super cool and the final palette that was chosen is great. I think she nailed the light source and the reflections it creates. I also find the twist on the theme to be nice cause sea creatures are too often pictured as wonderful creations of mother nature while this one, realistically so, scares me a little bit!

The second image is her entry for a “dtiys” challenge in which she really took the subject and made it her own. The fishes are probably the most spectacular detail of it all considering the colors they come with and their positions and movements, it’s a 2D painting after all but the animals are clearly moving in my mind. Very nice that the hair match the tone and help strengthen the bond.

What do you think about Elaine? Do you also love what’s going on here?
