Ema Kubo (@emakubo) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project

Ema is a Japanese American painter and art historian. I couldn’t be starting this episode in any other way than saying the fact that she mixes up in her works both the cultures and backgrounds she comes from makes for some quite powerful and super good looking pieces.

I really love to watch all the videos she posts where you can really appreciate the precision of the movements and gestures she makes. There’s no sketch to follow which is impressive, you just see her hand dancing on the paper and the subject comes to life!

This otter is one of many, she made a series (check it out it’s totally worth it!) where she painted a houndred small paintings with animals each expressing a different feeling. This one is number 33, is called “Chill” and it’s clearly on point!

The asleep child you see here is her baby, 15 months old in the painting and it’s a second piece after the first one when she was only 5 months. I find this kind of portrait really precious, especially coming from a mother. Love it

What do you think about Ema? Do you also love what’s going on here?
