Geneviève Godbout (@genevievegodboutillustration) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project

Geneviève is an artist who traveled the world following her art, she’s now based in Montreal and has a fondness for pastels and color pencils. Her profile is a refreshing view and nowadays almost an original choice if you will, I love to see it and I think all the colors and the textures I get to see there are stunning.

Her style is perfect for children’s books and I’m really glad and happy she was able to publish her own titles, I’m sure it has to be sensational to see your own artworks and stories in a real life book and think children around the world will grow up with them… or fall asleep! I pictured a mom or a dad reading a goodnight page and I think it’s awesome to be part of those tender moments with your illustrations, for example. I still remember my mom’s goodnight routine nowadays with so much love!

The first pic is a preview she gave on IG of a book that she worked on really hard, and let me tell you I love this scene and I think the soft colors she used are wonderful (she mentioned being not so sure and afraid that printed they could be too washed, I hope they’ll be as good as I can see them on the screen!). What I can see is also one of my secret most sought for moments cause Lapis, my cat, is a bit shy and only gave me that kind of company a few times ever.

The second image is a slice of a bigger illustration (you can find the original on her website, link below) part of “Apple Cake” or “Gateau aux Pommes”, one of the books she illustrated. I enjoy the athmosphere you breathe seeing the curious kids looking carefully and following the steps (as a kid I’d been there to steal a goodie for sure). All the details on the table and the kitchen are very nice and this piece just made me want to bake a cake!

What do you think about Geneviève? Do you also love what’s going on here?
