Joyce Chang (@joycster) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project

Joyce is a landscape architecture and designer from Taiwan. She does some art and the hidden connection between all the pieces I feel has to be the “free experimentation”. There really are no barriers in what she does and I don’t mean to say this in the sense that the subjects are crazy or the illustrations scandalous, by any means, I just see the mind running free when I look at the art. The pieces give me this idea that the artist didn’t have a full plan when she started drawing and the figure built itself on the way. It’s genuine, and it makes me like it a lot more. You will mostly find character designs and portraits with occasional fanarts and other things.

The first piece is beautiful, I love to be able to see the brush strokes and this pose is just fantastic. The focus ranging from the hand to the face is great and the loss of it in the lower part of the painting follows the real experience, I like the big eyes and the colors she used (powerful where they need to be and soft if that’s their role). It’s overall a very very good digital painting.

The second image is super expressive and magnetic. After looking at the details I discovered she posted two more versions of it in different color schemes (mostly changing the hair color, but all the skin was slightly touched too). It’s awesome and even if I think I like this one the most I had a good time looking at how and where she changed the art to make it expose different feelings.

What do you think about Joyce? Do you also love what’s going on here?
