Julie W. (@owlyjules) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project
Julie is an illustrator based in Ontario, Canada. Some of her artworks are made with watercolors or gouache, some others are digital paintings, no matter what I find her pieces to be connected with my idea of “tales” and how I would represent them. It has something to do with her style for sure, but I also think a major role in this comes from coloring. The tones are rarely lit up and bright, I would say those are exceptions, most of the times the majority of the canvas is filled with soft shades.
Sometimes she creates little objects that I would call “house decorations” to include every kind of creation that enriches your house or workspace. There are some nice projects, and overall her feed is relaxing because she shares normal day life pics every now and then so I definitely know we have a few passions in common other than art. I got to see cats, animals in general, plants.. All sort of things cute.
The first pic is actually the portrait she made for her dnd character, she’s soooo cute! Unfortunately the pandemic kept her from being able to play but I hope she’ll get a (safe) chance cause this one is really adorable. I think the decorations around it are very cool and the expression she was able to give her fits perfectly! (she’s part of a custom campaign and it’s a robot/automaton character)
The black cat on the roof and his orchestra are simply too good, they’re amazing, I love the ones singing in the back especially the one on the left with the patchy coat. See this is the kind of artwork I’d want to find in a children’s book, it has just about the right amount of personification in it and the athmosphere is super enjoyable. It could also be the art printed on a card, from a board game, I think I would appreciate this style!
What do you think about Julie? Do you also love what’s going on here?
