Mary Jean Ruhnke (@maryjeanruhnkeart) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project

Mary Jean is an artist based in Texas, she is particularly good at drawing birds on top of other animals, nature and many subjects. The fact she uses mixed medias to complete the artworks makes them super interesting so I love to zoom in the images and swipe them all to catch tiny details (there are a lot of hidden gems in her art, it’s super worth it to look for them).

The majority of her works are made traditionally and are also quite big in size, so it’s natural that the time to complete then is going to be long. She does use this as an advantage tho to take lots of pictures and share a bunch of moments of the “work in progress”. It’s a thing I’ve always liked and will never stop liking, a window in the artist’s world!

“A Great Encounter”, the first piece, is such an awesome painting. You see the choice on how and where to put the colors is amazing, and the choice on which colors to use is also great. The light on the feathers looks great, the cat is super cute and the background too is fantastic. The balance between things is unusual yet attractive, there’s really nothing I could not like about this artwork.

The second pic is a piece of the “Corvus Covid-19 Series”, a collection of paintings made during the pandemic. It’s strange to refer to this time frame and think about it almost like an “era”, but I guess the changes all the world had to go through were so big it’s obviously something art will reflect in one way or another. Hopefully like in this case with a wonderful result. And then again, the details are so many and so well done it’s just a pleasure to watch.

What do you think about Mary Jean? Do you also love what’s going on here?
