Mary Metzger (@marymetzgr) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project

Mary is an artist based in Richmond, Virginia. She primarily works in digital painting ladies, nature and other things but I’ve definitely seen a few traditional pieces that looked even better than the digital ones so I think she’s not missing anything. The coloring skills are amazing and another thing to look out for is how good and detailed the vegetation is always drawn.

In 2019 Mary was awarded with the Adobe Design Achievement of Top Talent, it’s nothing to sneeze at and for a young artist it’s exactly the kind of promising path you’d hope she gets into. Maybe it’s just a word, but this series of mine talking about talented artists ended up talking about the same person, is it a coincidence? Don’t think so.

The first image is a two panel illustration, on her website which I suggest you to visit you’ll also find the description which relates the piece to Schubert’s String Quartet no.14 Death and The Maiden. I find this artwork to be absolutely amazing especially on the detail drawn in the upper part cause that eye with the flies stole my attention.

The second image is part of a two page comic and I loved to see the preparatory sketch, the steps when it turned digital up to the final result (once again I found most of this on her website, where each project gets a detailed page). This one has some crazy lighting on the cathedral and a beautiful style overall. A fantastic illustration.

What do you think about Mary? Do you also love what’s going on here?
