Vanessa Morales (@phonemova) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project

Vanessa is an illustrator and character designer based in Mexico, she does some of the most colorful and joyful artworks out there and always puts a smile or a grimace on her protagonists. This turns them from an everyday kid to your favorite hero, from anonymous monsters to your familiars, the ones you can trust to start an adventure.

I bet she has lots of funny moments while looking back at the illustrations cause it’s almost impossible to find one where everything looks “normal”, so I think she really works spectacularly with creativity to be able to twist the gears that little bit, just enough to make the art memorable while keeping it on point and very beautiful.

Oh man! Look at this little girl riding “The paper mache dragon”, I find her super cute and she really looks like she’s having a good time, plus the dragon is so funny! You see what I mean, the dragon didn’t need to have this expression, could’ve been the dragon you first think about, mighty and scary, powerful.. But no, the dragon is funny. And that’s why I’m going to remember this artwork for a very long time! Love it.

The second image deserves a zoom in (click on the image) to check the girl’s face compared to the one of the little “abyssal puffer fish” or whatever that little cute ball is. It’s going in the wrong direction and to me it looks in a “oooh oops” moment, mixed with the astonishment of having found a human face down there deep in the sea. The big eyes are the icing on the cake. Very cute illustration!
