Yuming Li (@yuming_art) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project
Yuming is an illustrator and concept artist based in the US. The most frequent type of paintings you can find in the IG feed are digital portraits ranging from realistic ones to less detailed. There is often a “fantasy” style or influence if you want. A common trait between all the works could be the amazing use of colors and light to paint super exrpessive faces (and humans in general, meaning sometimes it’s not the face being expressive or important, not as much as the colors and the pose in the correct environment and painted background). I love when the final result doesn’t hide the brush strokes and isn’t shy at all in showing how it’s made. The rough lines are such a pleasure that I think going with more details would actually hurt the scene, the balance Yuming finds is fenomenal.
The first painting is the perfect example of how the shapes, the colors, the light and the background aren’t “drawing” dependant at all cause the image is stunning and you can barely see any strong defining lines. I like the scratches on the canvas a lot, the texture gives a huge contribution to this piece. If you don’t see them in the miniature click on the image to get an higher quality version in which you can zoom in cause it’s worth a look!
Both the other illustrations share the power of “light” as their main trait, to me. It’s clear that the women painted are beautiful and super well drawn, I don’t mean to take anything from that, but the effect that light has on the colors and the fact that it drives your eyes exactly on the focal points so easily are a fantastic combination. Love the hair by the way, both of them, super cool tones and styles!
