Caroline De Geeter (@carolinedgart) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project
Caroline is an illustrator originally from Belgium now based in France, she potraits a lot and takes inspiration mainly from fantasy, folklore and those kind of magical worlds. Faes are amogst her favorite subjects and she always uses fresh palettes changing based on the situation and the feelings the character has to convey.
I’m impressed by her ability to put emotions on the characters using facial traits but especially their hands. Many times they’re an important part of the artwork andreally make the difference. Other than that I don’t really know why but I love the hair styles and how she draws them, I might have to investigate on this, they are magnetic to me.
The first pic is a fenomenal artwork, Caroline thought about every single part of it and shared her thinking process in the caption. As her piece to end the year and start a new one she decided to use the black roses as a symbol of death of the old and start of a new beginning. The lilac should be the growth she had and she would like to continue having in 2021 and the rising sun is there for healing and strength. I like how “reading” the elements gives me a whole new look to what was already a fantastic painting.
The second piece is “The May Queen” she painted for the first day of the month, I love how expressive she is and this is one of the times in which the hands are really a big part of the scene, the gesture looks to me like a mixture between a spell and a prayer, maybe she’s the kind of “cleric” figure from fantasy stories? Love it! The tones are spectacular and the hair are soooo good, this piece is unreal!
What do you think about Caroline? Do you also love what’s going on here?
