Sylvain Aublin (@sylvain_aublin) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project

Sylvain is an illustrator and concept artist from France, he posts characters and environments and they’re all beautiful. He works primarily in the boardgame industry and as soon as you see his artworks you’re gonna know why that is. I’m passionate about boardgames and I tend to like most the ones that are well illustrated. I mean obviously the game itself is important but to hook me into it the box and the art on the materials like the rulebook, the cards, the board if there’s one.. is always the first and most important factor. With this passion of mine and the experience of plenty of games played in the past I can tell you all the “worlds” I see coming out of Sylvain’s works are inspiring and would certainly drive me towards a game or two of whatever you want, just to see if the art connects to the storyline and the mechanics to creates a great game. So what he does is important and it also looks like it’s very well executed.

The first pic is a stunning art and I would love you to focus on two aspects of it: first of all look at the sea, the clear water the calm waves and the crazy good boat and reflection. Then take a look at the foreground, it’s not just about the bowls this part is so crazy and good at the same time.. There is a spectacular perspective on the stairs, their texture is also curated and feels perfect, the walls are great, I think he nailed it!

The second artwork is “Swamp’s lost temple” and here the most powerful thing is certainly the yellow-ish green tone he used for the swampy waters. They really make it look like a bleak and gloomy place, so the person on the boat is either crazy or up to no good cause this pond is too scary to navigate it “just because”. I love how he made it clear that there’s a place you want to reach outside in the background by using light in a very good way, it seems like all you want to do is reach that opening and cross it as soon as possible!

What do you think about Sylvain? Do you also love what’s going on here?
