Isabel Burke (@the.flightless.artist) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project
Isabel is an illustrator and comic artist based in Austin, Texas. She loves to express through comics and her skills are just over the top! She’s one of my most recent discoveries through TikTok (her link is down below), don’t underestimate the platform because I’ve found it quite inspiring much like Instagram is. I’m very happy I got to see her artworks there together with small videos of the process, in fact it’s only through them that you can realize every little detail in her works has been carefully thought and got her attention. Working digitally gives the artist the ability to work in a big screen on a small detail and Isabel does it for the full image creating what I’d call masterpieces one after the other. Awesome!
The first image is super interesting, besides being very cool and intriguing on IG you’ll find a short animated version of it and if that’s not enough there’s the sped up process video coming straight from procreate (a feature I love) that lets you see every stroke from the sketch to the final result. It makes it look so easy to see it all in a couple seconds but this piece has a concept and so many details behind that it’s quite the opposite. Beautiful work.
“The Illusionist”, our second piece, another artwork that leaves me speechless. She said it took her 17 hours to complete! Please take a second to appreciate the Escher inspired background (love it!). So the full story is she started with an idea, worked on it, changed her mind and did it all over (same concept, but different result basically) and I feel her so much! I do this all the time, it’s the perfect occasion to remember that when you see a wonderful artwork there might be more than one try behind it! Hard work, but rewarding, I mean look at this!
What do you think about Isabel? Do you also love what’s going on here?
