Kapi Michalska (@unpreti) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project
Kapi is a graphic designer and portrait painter from Poland. I found her on Artfol which I care to mention cause it’s a new app and I think it’s perfect for doing exactly what this blog series is all about: you get to see awesome art like Kapi’s portraits and you can discover the artist and know more about them.
Her expressive portraits carry a style I like a lot and I find her work on illustrating over a portrait to be colorful, original and focus capturing. The lines she draws and the shapes she makes are always complementary to the image behind them, more often than not bringing a new meaning to the whole piece.
The first image is the perfect chance to admire her art and all the different “games” she makes with her illustrations, without taking anything from the portraits themselves which are obviously wonderful. This mix between reality and abstract shapes with plain colors creates a magical mood, the kind of atmosphere I wish one day all my paintings will reach.
The second pic is what makes me think, it’s the portrait I wanna watch for a long time, it’s the combination between something my eyes can see and something my brain has to work with. What is a sponge doing there? Why is there a hand floating around? Who is the hand of? And then again why the curly hair, are those two different subjects or is it only one person? I try to answer there questions but I can’t, I just hope one day I’ll understand the process behind this artwork and many others from Kapi. Till that moment comes, I’m going to enjoy the art and the feelings it gives me.
What do you think about Kapi? Do you also love what’s going on here?
