Merilliza Chan (@merilliza) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project
Merilliza is an artist and illustrator based in Manila, Philippines. Her thing is surely the fantasy genre illustration which she can then tailor towards games, card arts, book covers and those sort of final products.
Looking at her feed one of the first things that comes to mind is how much she can push the quality of her artworks. I’ve tried to find that piece you know, the one you do rushing it that comes out a bit worse than the other ones, but I had no luck, all the pieces are wonderful and ready to be printed or used in the digital world (many of which fall in fact in this category to no surprise). I think she absolutely masters the subject and to get inspired or learn a few things I would look no further.
The first image is the cover for “Bonds of Brass”, she had a fun time painting the space boys and I think the drawing but especially the coloring are stunning here. The green light hitting the heads and creating those color shifts is amazing. I love all the nebulas, the stars and the cosmic effects all around in the back, and the bits in the front too, they look so real. A crazy good project.
The second pic is worth a look cause in a sense it goes a bit “out of scheme” for her common artwork, being a not so sci-fi figure. Needless to say I like it so much anyways, it only goes to show her talent is wider than you might think. The hair are probably my favorite part, Merilliza found the perfect way to use so many cool colors in a single girl blending them very nicely.
What do you think about Merilliza? Do you also love what’s going on here?
