Mona Finden (@monafinden) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project
Mona is a freelance illustrator from Oslo, Norway. She does a lot of digital “almost realistic” portraits with an influence coming from the east. I had to quote the realistic trait cause I feel like the style is definitely so but there are plenty of references to anime, legends and all sorts of imaginary worlds that saying they all look real is a bit of a stretch. I have to say tho that this is really a point of strength on her art cause I love to get to see characters and stories coming from a “toonish” world made into human figures. It gives my mind the power to think “what would it be like if it was real” and I’m shocked, some pieces are really killing it in this regard. One more thing I love about her is the attention she has for details and the precision she puts on defining backgrounds and environments, it’s a beauty.
The first image is stunning. I like the character a lot cause I think Mona found a perfect and beautiful mix between the oriental background and clothings style and the western figure of the woman. The match is surprisingly good. The dragon painted in the back is awesome and the face of the protagonist is even more, she found very delicate and pleasing traits. Cute detail: the fan is soooo gorgeous!
The second image is one she did a while ago but hit me so much I had to pick it, the amount of dedication involved in creating such a wonderful dragon and its rider is gigantic. The details never stop coming you could spend days and keep finding new traits. There are cool textures everywhere. Oh and by the way the pose she used for the rider is absolutely on point. I love this piece.
