Valery Konovalova (@rikibeztiki) is my pick for today’s talent!
If you don’t know what A Year on Talents is here you can find the description of the project: A Year on Talents Project

Valery is a watercolorist, digital artist and illustrator based in Russia. Her main subjects are animals and human figures, especially women, with a prevalence for portraits. Besides the fact that she’s really good at drawing, and I’m talking about all her pieces no matter the style, which can be realistic or more cominc oriented, she is also very good at coloring.

I’ve noticed a trend on blue, violet, pink and red / orange, making her feed quite unique and appealing. It’s cohesive and starts being a trait from which you immediately recognize the artist, something I like and I think it’s important, it is defining and should not be undervalued.

The first image of the sea creatures is suuuuper nice, I love the style she used and the character she gave to the animals. Worth noting here the awesome gradients as well as the many details she put on the shells. To complete the circle she took a picture with a couple of stones that really look like they’ve been found underwater. Yes, maybe that’s only a little detail, but I think in the end those are really the things that step up all your work, it’s a sign that she cares about it to the very end!

Second image is a digital painting, she took a photo reference to start with and tuned it to make a “space star” out of a girl. I like the paradox of a human holding a planet and I think in this case, even tho I don’t really know why, it makes her look like a witch or some sort of supernatural woman. To me it reached the point in which the planet doesn’t look like a toy but an actual planet, so my mind tries to identify the figure with something capable of holding such an object. I love the result and the feelings about this one!

What do you think about Valery? Do you also love what’s going on here?
